Replace Damaged or Underperforming Solar Panels and Restore Reliable Energy Production

Solar Panel Replacement

One damaged or failed solar panel can reduce the output of part—or sometimes all—of a solar energy system. Cracked glass, damaged cells, loose wiring, severe weather, animals, electrical issues, and normal wear over time can all cause problems that cleaning or routine maintenance won’t fix.

iSP Solar delivers expert solar panel diagnostics, removal, replacement, testing, and recommissioning for residential and commercial systems. We replace eligible panels on systems installed by iSP Solar or other providers—including orphaned systems where the original installer is no longer operating or cannot provide support.

Before we recommend replacement, our service team confirms whether the panel is truly causing the issue. If replacement is needed, we assess electrical compatibility, panel size, mounting hardware, inverter setup, roof conditions, product availability, and system requirements to ensure the best-fit solution.

Does Your Solar Panel Need to Be Replaced?

A solar panel shouldn’t be replaced based on its appearance or a monitoring alert alone. Issues elsewhere in the system can make a working panel look like it’s failing. The root cause may be a microinverter, optimizer, connector, wiring, inverter, monitoring software, shading, dirt, or another electrical component.

Signs that a panel or related equipment may need a professional inspection include:

  • Cracked or shattered panel glass
  • Visible impact damage from hail, branches, tools, or debris
  • Burn marks, discoloration, bubbling, delamination, or melted components
  • A panel that is missing from the monitoring portal
  • One panel producing significantly less than nearby panels
  • A section of the array that has stopped producing
  • Exposed, loose, chewed, or damaged wiring beneath a panel
  • Water or moisture visible inside the panel or junction box
  • Repeated inverter, microinverter, or optimizer fault codes
  • Storm, fire, construction, or animal damage near the array
  • A loose, shifted, or physically unstable panel
  • Production that remains low after cleaning and system troubleshooting

Do not touch a visibly damaged panel or exposed wiring. Solar panels can generate electricity whenever they receive light, even if the inverter is off or the system is not reporting production.

Solar Panel Diagnostics Before Replacement

Replacing the wrong component costs money and can leave the real issue unresolved. iSP Solar starts by inspecting your panels and related system components to pinpoint the most likely source of the problem.

Depending on the equipment, site access, and reported symptoms, diagnostics may include:

  • Review of monitoring data and production history
  • Visual inspection of the affected panel and surrounding array
  • Comparison of panel-level production when available
  • Inspection of accessible connectors and wiring
  • Evaluation of microinverters or power optimizers
  • Review of inverter faults and system alerts
  • Electrical testing when appropriate
  • Inspection for impact, moisture, animal, heat, or storm damage
  • Review of mounting and roof conditions around the affected panel
  • Manufacturer, model, serial number, and warranty research

The result may point to panel replacement, but it may instead identify a failed microinverter, damaged connector, wiring fault, monitoring problem, shading issue, or another repair need.

Why Solar Panels Need Replacement

Cracked or Shattered Glass

Hail, falling branches, debris, accidental impact, severe weather, or service work can crack the protective glass. Even a small crack may allow moisture to enter or worsen as the panel experiences heat, cold, wind, snow, and freeze-thaw cycles.

Internal Cell or Electrical Failure

A panel can look normal while internal cells, ribbons, diodes, junction-box components, or electrical connections have failed. Testing and monitoring data can help isolate the affected equipment.

Hot Spots and Heat Damage

Electrical resistance, cell defects, shading, damage, or connection problems may create concentrated heat. Discoloration, burn marks, melted materials, or recurring electrical faults require prompt professional evaluation.

Moisture Intrusion and Delamination

Failed seals, damaged backsheets, cracked glass, or manufacturing defects can allow moisture into the module or cause layers to separate. These conditions may affect reliability, insulation, appearance, and production.

Storm and Weather Damage

Hail, wind, lightning, snow loads, ice, falling limbs, and flying debris can damage panels and related components. A post-storm inspection may reveal wiring, mounting, roof, inverter, or panel-level damage in addition to the visible panel issue.

Animal and Pest Damage

Birds, squirrels, and rodents may nest beneath the array, chew wiring, damage panel electronics, and move debris against electrical components. Repairs should address the damage before critter guards or other protective measures are installed.

Aging or Unavailable Equipment

Older panels can fail after years of service, and the original model may no longer be manufactured. Replacement then requires careful consideration of electrical characteristics, dimensions, mounting, appearance, availability, and system configuration.

Finding a Compatible Replacement Solar Panel

Solar panel replacement isn’t always a straightforward one-for-one swap. Over time, panel technology and specifications have changed—including power ratings, voltage, current, size, connectors, frame thickness, appearance, and other electrical characteristics. Installing a mismatched panel can reduce output, trigger system faults, or force changes to other parts of your system.

iSP Solar evaluates factors such as:

  • Original panel manufacturer and model
  • Panel wattage and electrical ratings
  • Voltage and current characteristics
  • Physical dimensions and frame design
  • Connector type and wiring configuration
  • String-inverter, microinverter, or optimizer architecture
  • Mounting and racking compatibility
  • Available roof space and array layout
  • Utility, permitting, and code considerations
  • Manufacturer warranty and replacement availability
  • Monitoring and panel-level equipment compatibility
  • Visual appearance when an exact match is unavailable

When the original model is discontinued, we look for an appropriate replacement strategy rather than assuming that any panel with a similar wattage will work.

Replacing Panels in String-Inverter and Microinverter Systems

String-Inverter Systems

Panels in a string share an electrical relationship. The replacement panel must be evaluated within the string’s voltage, current, design, and inverter requirements. A mismatch can affect how the string performs and may require a broader system solution.

Microinverter Systems

Microinverters convert power at the individual-panel level, but the replacement panel must still be mechanically and electrically compatible with the microinverter, mounting, wiring, and system design. A panel-level monitoring alert may also indicate a failed microinverter rather than a failed panel.

Optimizer-Based Systems

Systems using power optimizers require evaluation of the panel, optimizer, inverter, mapping, voltage limits, and communications. Replacing the correct component and updating the monitoring configuration are important parts of the repair.

Solar Panel Warranty Replacement Assistance

A failed solar panel may be covered under the manufacturer’s warranty, depending on the equipment, installation date, registration status, cause of failure, available documentation, and warranty terms. iSP Solar can help identify the panel, document visible or measured issues, and gather the information typically required to file a claim.

Warranty assistance may include:

  • Identifying panel manufacturer, model, and serial number
  • Gathering photographs and production information
  • Documenting diagnostic findings
  • Helping determine the applicable warranty process
  • Coordinating approved replacement equipment when available
  • Providing removal and installation service
  • Testing and recommissioning the repaired system

Manufacturer warranties differ. Equipment coverage may not include diagnostics, labor, shipping, roof access, permits, removal, installation, or related repairs. Approval and coverage decisions remain with the manufacturer or warranty administrator.

Our Solar Panel Replacement Process

1. Review the Problem

Tell us about monitoring alerts, visible damage, storm activity, prior repairs, and changes in production. Photos and screenshots can help us understand the likely scope.

2. Diagnose the Panel and Related Equipment

We evaluate whether the problem is caused by the panel or by wiring, connectors, panel-level electronics, the inverter, monitoring, shading, or another component.

3. Confirm Replacement Compatibility

If the panel must be replaced, we identify its specifications and determine what compatible replacement options are available.

4. Remove and Replace the Panel

Our team safely accesses the array, removes the affected equipment, installs the approved replacement, reconnects the system, and addresses included related work.

5. Test and Recommission the System

We test applicable electrical operation, restore or update monitoring when supported, and verify that the replaced equipment is reporting and operating under the available conditions.

More Than a Panel Swap

Panel replacement may reveal or require additional work. iSP Solar can evaluate and address related needs, including:

  • Damaged solar wiring and connectors
  • Failed microinverters or power optimizers
  • Inverter faults
  • Monitoring and system-mapping problems
  • Roof leaks or damaged roof penetrations
  • Loose or damaged mounting components
  • Animal nests and chewed wiring
  • Critter guard installation
  • Storm and weather damage repairs
  • Solar panel cleaning
  • Full system inspections and production testing
  • Panel removal and reinstallation for roof replacement

By treating the panel as part of the complete solar and roofing system, we can help prevent a partial repair from leaving other concerns unresolved.

We Replace Panels Installed by Other Solar Companies

You shouldn’t be stuck with a failed solar panel because the original installer shut down, no longer serves your area, or won’t service older systems. iSP Solar replaces qualifying panels and related equipment for systems originally installed by national, regional, or local solar companies.

We help owners of:

  • Orphaned solar systems
  • Older systems with discontinued panels
  • Homes purchased with existing solar
  • Systems with unresolved warranty claims
  • Arrays damaged by weather, animals, roof work, or construction
  • Systems that are operating with one or more failed panels
  • Commercial installations needing targeted panel replacement

If available, provide the original proposal, electrical plans, equipment list, monitoring access, warranty documents, prior service reports, and photos of the affected panel.

Residential Solar Panel Replacement

iSP Solar helps homeowners replace damaged, failed, or underperforming panels on rooftop and qualifying ground-mounted systems. We know repairs often involve more than the panels themselves—safe roof access, mounting hardware, flashing, wiring, monitoring, warranty paperwork, and even matching an older array can all shape the right solution.

Whether a single panel was damaged in a storm or an older system is showing multiple performance issues, we assess your system and recommend a clear, practical repair plan.

Commercial Solar Panel Replacement

A failed panel in a large commercial solar array can be hard to spot without monitoring, testing, or structured troubleshooting. iSP Solar delivers targeted panel diagnostics and replacement for qualifying commercial rooftop and ground-mounted systems.

We plan each project around array size, electrical layout, roof access, facility operations, shutdown needs, equipment availability, and site safety. If multiple panels are impacted, we’ll help you decide whether targeted replacements are the best option or if a broader repair approach will deliver better results.

Why Choose iSP Solar for Solar Panel Replacement?

  • We diagnose before replacing equipment. A panel-level alert does not always mean the panel has failed.
  • We service qualifying systems installed by other companies. You do not have to be an original iSP Solar customer.
  • We evaluate compatibility carefully. Wattage alone does not determine whether a replacement panel will work correctly.
  • We understand the complete system. Our team can evaluate panels, wiring, inverters, monitoring, batteries, mounting, and roofing concerns.
  • We can assist with warranty documentation. When coverage may apply, we help identify the information needed for the claim process.
  • We complete related repairs. If the panel failure involves wiring, electronics, roof conditions, or animal damage, we can develop a complete corrective scope.

We just went solar with ISP (Ion Solar Pros). We began talking in February. We always wanted to get solar panels on our home but it never seemed to work out after previous discussions with various providers over the last two decades. Every discussion over the years with various companies ended up with it being “too” something. Too expensive, too many trees, roof too old, electric bill too low, etc. It was not a failure on the providers part but there were always obstacles. Working with Eli at ISP opened up options which proved positive. We signed a contract and everything moved forward without a hitch. ISP representatives kept me informed through all the steps. Appointments were made and appointments were kept. Layouts were presented and installation was on time and fast! Components were state of the art and the highest quality. No headaches at all and the system should be going live next week! I would recommend Ion Solar Pros without hesitation.
